Little Squirrel wakes up in his cozy tree nest. He looks around, but Mama Squirrel is not there. 'Mama? Mama!' he calls. A gentle wind blows, and a bright red leaf lands on his nose. 'Maybe she went to the big city!' he thinks, and hops down the tree.
Squirrel scampers into the busy city. Tall buildings touch the sky! Cars honk and people rush past. He sees a taxi with a fluffy tail—but it's just a dog. 'Where is Mama?' He sniffs the air, smelling popcorn and flowers, but not Mama's warm, piney scent.
A kind pigeon coos, 'Are you lost, little one?' Squirrel nods, showing a tiny acorn. 'Mama gave me this. I can't find her.' The pigeon flaps her wings. 'I saw a squirrel with a purple scarf near the clock tower. Let's go!' They weave through feet and wheels.
At the clock tower, Squirrel sees a long line of squirrels! They are all wearing shiny buttons. 'Mama!' he calls. One turns—it's not her. He feels a tear drop on his paw. The pigeon pats his back. 'Don't worry. We'll keep looking.'
Suddenly, a loud rumble shakes the ground. A parade! Elephants trumpet and dancers twirl. Squirrel's heart pounds. Then—he spots a familiar fluffy tail waving from a float. 'MAMA!' He dashes through the crowd, dodging giant shoes and rolling drums.
Mama Squirrel leaps down and wraps him in a hug. 'Oh, my brave little nut!' she whispers. 'I got lost when I followed a shiny coin to buy you a gift.' She shows him a tiny golden acorn necklace. Squirrel giggles and puts it on.
Together, they ride home on a city bus, watching the lights twinkle. Squirrel snuggles into Mama's fur. 'I had an adventure,' he says. 'But home is best.' The pigeon waves goodbye from a lamp post, and the stars begin to glow.
Back in their tree nest, Mama tucks Squirrel in with a lullaby. The golden acorn shines on his chest. 'Remember,' she says, 'even far away, my heart is always with you.' Squirrel smiles, closes his eyes, and dreams of tomorrow's adventure.
